Mostly everything that can be said about the great Muhammad Ali has already been documented, so we at Muscle & Fitness just want to salute the Olympic gold medalist and three-time world heavyweight champion on his 73rd birthday this Saturday.

To celebrate the milestone, we are going to revisit some of his more famous quotes that might inspire all M&Fers as they strive to reach their fitness goals in and out of the gym.

Here are a few great ones:

On training: “I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'”

On dedication: “The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses – behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.”

On how to react to defeat: “I never thought of losing, but now that it has happened, the only thing is to do it right. That’s my obligation to all the people who believe in me. We all have to take defeats in life.”

On maturity: “The man who views the world at 50 the same as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.”

On being Muhammad Ali: “It’s hard to be humble, when you’re as great as I am.”

Heavyweight champions of more recent times took to Twitter today to offer their best wishes:

So Happy Birthday, Muhammad Ali, from all here at Muscle & Fitness. More Power to You!
