Jake Gyllenhaal Stars In Highly-Anticipated Boxing Drama ‘Southpaw’

Southpaw, one of the summer’s most-anticipated films, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, is set to open on July 24.

The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), tells the riveting story of light heavyweight boxing champ Billy “The Great” Hope, played by Academy Award nominee, Jake Gyllenhaal.

While Hope seemingly has it all — with an impressive career, a beautiful and loving wife, an adorable daughter, and a lavish lifestyle — tragedy soon strikes, and his lifelong manager and friend leave him behind.

Hope hits rock bottom and turns to an unlikely savior at a run-down local gym: Tick Willis, a retired fighter and trainer of amateur boxers. With his future riding on Tick’s guidance and tenacity, Hope enters the hardest battle of his life as he struggles with redemption, looking to win back the trust of those he loves.

Gyllenhaal went through intensive training at Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s boxing center in Atlanta for the role of Hope.

The movie also boasts an All-Star cast featuring Forest Whitaker, Rachel McAdams, M&F Cover star Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Naomie Harris, Oona Laurence, Miguel Gomez, Victor Ortiz, Asia Fuqua, Beau Knapp and Skylan Brooks.
