November 23, 1984

On this day in fit history, Doug Flutie made one of the most famous completions in college football history when his last gasp 48-yard throw was caught by Gerard Phelan for a touchdown to give Boston College a 47-45 win over the University of Miami in the Orange Bowl. That season, Flutie became the first college football quarterback to throw over 10,000 yards, and he won the Heisman Trophy just over a week later.
