Trey Hardee is the two-time, reigning World Champion in the decathlon, an honor that earns him the distinction as the world’s greatest all-around athlete. In fact, one of the defining moments of Trey’s career was during the 2011 World Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where he ran the 1,500-meter event with his arm heavily wrapped after blowing out a ligament in his elbow during his final javelin throw, an agonizing injury that would have eliminated most athletes from the competition.
The 2012 Summer Games mark Trey’s second trip to the Olympics, where he is considered the favorite for gold. Trey’s personal best of 8,790, which he set in Berlin in 2009, currently ranks behind just Dan O’Brien and Bryan Clay in the event in American history. The 28-year old lives in Austin, Texas and is a graduate of the University of Texas.

Pre-competition ritual: I don’t really have a ritual, but more of a routine that starts 8 or 9 days out. Each day is planned in order to peak me at the competition.

What else you may not know about Trey Hardee: He claims to be terrible at any sport that requires being pulled behind a boat and was cut from the basketball team in junior high; he was asked to try out for the NY Jets in 2008; and he made it to the 2008 Summer Olympics just six short years after deciding to give the decathlon a try.
