Steve Weatherford isn’t the richest guy in the NFL by a long shot—it only seems that way from the amount of his own time and money he donates to charity. From spending Halloween at the Hospital for Special Surgery to taking care of prom costs for kids hit by Hurricane Sandy, Weatherford is always looking for ways to give back to the community—which we detailed at greater length in this feature story in the November 2014 issue.

This Christmas, Weatherford took 50 underprivileged area kids from East Orange, NJ to the Target store in East Hanover, giving each kid a $100 spending limit. See it all play out in the video above, which Weatherford shot for M&F.

In the video, Weatherford makes an appeal to the fitness community to give back this holiday season. He explains that as gym rats, we can spend an inordinate amount of time obsessing over our workouts, our nutrition, and the right supplements to take. It’s a healthy obsession, to be sure, but for a lot of kids out there, a mere gym membership is out of the question—their parents are too hard at work trying to keep a roof over their heads.

“You don’t have to be a Super Bowl champion or an NFL player to make a difference in your community and change somebody’s life,” Weatherford says. “Christmas is about the season of giving.”
