October 8, 1956

On this day in 1956, Don Larsen threw a perfect game for the New York Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Yankees went on on to win the World Series in Game 7 and Larson was named World Series MVP. After the last pitch, Yogi Berra leapt into Larsen's arms to celebrate the first perfect game in MLB post-season history.

While other pitchers have pitched no-hitters during the playoffs since, Larsen remains the only pitcher to ever throw a perfect game.
