Today in Fit History: Wayne Gretzky Breaks All-Time Goals Record

23 years ago today, The Great One broke a long-standing NHL record.

October 15, 1989

The NHL strike may be preventing us from seeing any action on the ice, but today marks the 23rd anniversary of Wayne Gretzky breaking Gordie Howe's then points record of 1,850. Gretzky scored twice on the night for the Los Angeles Kings against his former team, the Edmonton Oilers, to become the new record holder and amassed a total of 2,857 points in a glorious career.
