November 22, 1986

On this day in fit history, Mike Tyson, 20, knocked out Trevor Berbick in the second round of their fight at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas to become the youngest heavyweight champion in history.  Berbick decided to trade toe-to-toe with Tyson in the first round and was repeatedly tagged with huge overhand lefts and rights from the young challenger.

At the start of the second stanza, Tyson connected with two overhand rights and then floored the champion with a third.  Berbick was up quickly, but he was seriously hurt and on unsteady legs.  Later in the round, a right to the body and a left hook to the head had Berbick down again, and this time he was unable to recover.  Referee Mills Lane stopped the fight with 2:35 gone in the round and there was a new WBC heavyweight champion of the world.
