Bench De-pressed as Deadlift Wins March Massness!!!

Written by M&F Staff | April 9, 2008

With all the subtlety of an oncoming train, the number one-seeded deadlift demolished the third seeded bench press in the March Massness Final, winning 60% of the votes. While some felt that the bench press might have enough momentum to deaden the deadlift's path to victory, the reality is that once the deadlift had the bench dead to right, it was all over and the bench was—you guessed it—dead in the water.

M&F Fitness Director Jimmy Pena, MS, CSCS, agreed with the vote. "It may be argued that big benchers who drive through the legs are performing a full-body exercise, but the deadlift is really in a class of its own. It's both a press and a pull, as you are pressing through the floor with your legs and pulling with your arms and back, and the core stability required to do it right is simply off the charts."
Thanks to everyone who voted! The discussion continues here.
