Bodybuilders should take note—a snacking and protein shake addition favorite has been recalled due to an outbreak of salmonella contamination. Salmonella, which is a type of microscopic bacteria, causes food poisoning in humans and lives in the intestinal tract.

This past weekend, the FDA and the CDC reported that 29 cases of salmonella poisoning had occurred due to the consumption of Trader Joe's Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter, which is manufactured by Sunland Inc. Since then, the recall has expanded to a whopping 76 types of peanut, cashew and almond products, including tahini.

The various Sunland Inc. products are sold under an array of brands such as Archer Farms, Natural Value and Earth Balance and were recalled because they were manufactured with the same machinery as the Trader Joe’s peanut butter.

Salmonella poisoning symptoms include stomach pains, diarrhea, fever and vomiting. If you are feeling a little queasy after having your daily serving of peanut butter, you might want to take yourself to the doctor.
