10. Olympus Has Fallen

He’s mean, he’s lean and he plays one hell of a president. He is, of course, Aaron Eckhart, and this movie, which made some $160 million at the box office has reportedly spawned a sequel that will begin production in 2014. Eckhart has a big year on the way with the release of I, Frankenstein, so keep a good eye on M&F coverage of that project!

9. Metallica: Through The Never

We’re sure if you look at the catalog of music that you have used to get you in a lifting mood over the years, then there must be a little Metallica in there. If you are looking for a different concert film, then this might be one for your holiday viewing. We caught up with Rob Trujillo earlier this year, and he gave us an insight into the movie and into the methods he uses to stay in rocking shape.

8. The Last Stand

The Oak took on the role of Sheriff Ray Owens as he made his much anticipated return as a leading man after his political career. In this film, a drug baron escapes from prison and heads for the border, but he must go through a sleepy border town to get out of the country. That town has one Sheriff Owens as the head of law enforcement, and he won’t do down without a fight.

7. Grudge Match

Two of our favorite badasses, Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro, square off to prove that they can still bring it as hard as the young guns in this hilarious movie about retired boxers making a comeback to settle an old score once and for all.

6. Fast & Furious 6

The Fast and Furious brand had a big winner with this movie, as it raked in nearly $790m at the worldwide box office. The busiest man in Hollywood, aka The Rock, and long time Fast and Furious stars Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker helped get the movie a very respectable 70% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Upon its recent DVD release, the filmmakers pledged to donate some of the takings to Walker’s Reach Out Worldwide foundation.

5. Escape Plan

Sly and Arnold in The Expendables 2 was the appetizer to this entree of the two heavyweight actions stars sharing some serious screen time together in Escape Plan.  Sly plays “the man who can break out of any prison designed by man,” but after he gets double-crossed and put away in an escape-proof prison, he has to enlist the help of an influential inmate (Arnold) to plan the ultimate break. Oh, and the two legends duke it out in the movie.

4. Generation Iron

Generation Iron is the ultimate fly-on-the-wall movie for fans for bodybuilding. Vlad Yudin follows seven bodybuilders as they go through the grueling preparations for Mr. Olympia. We get the chance to see what motivates these men, what challenges they have to overcome, and what they had to do to get to the top of the sport.

3. The Wolverine

Hugh Jackman continues his odyssey as Wolverine in the latest installment of the franchise. As usual, he turns up Jackman-shredded but in this movie we see him end up in Japan, struggling with the ghosts of his past and at odds as to what kind of future he wants to have.

2. Man of Steel

Well, what can you say about this one? Henry Cavill does himself and the man of steel proud by being in uber shape for this one (check out the Henry Cavill shredded superman workout), and the movie has a badass villain in the sneering and evil Michael Shannon. This Superman might be a bit more in touch with his feelings than previous iterations, but Cavill makes a fine debut, and when the you-know-what hits the fan this Superman lays it down as good as any that came before him.

1. Pain & Gain

First of all, Pain & Gain, which is based on a true story, is a roller coaster ride of a movie. Second of all, it features two of our favorite guys, The Rock and Mark Wahlberg, who both had to put on some serious mass to take on these roles. The movie makes you laugh and squirm in equal measure as these out-of-control kidnappers botch up again and again.
