Ronda Rousey’s last two title defenses clocked in at a combined 48 seconds. No doubt that stat will be heavy on Holly Holm’s mind as she prepares to face the women’s bantamweight champion early next year. UFC 195 is set to take place January 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will undoubtedly get 2016 off to an exciting start.

Rousey made the announcement on Good Morning America today. “January 2 I’m going to be fighting Holly Holm, who is actually the most decorated striker we have in all of mixed martial arts,” said Rousey of her opponent who is 9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC. “Not the women’s division, not the bantamweight division, like 19-time boxing world champion Holly Holm, was the Ring Magazine pound-for-pound female fighter of the year and definitely my biggest challenge to date so I’m super-excited about it.”

But wait, what about Miesha Tate? Many expected Rousey (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) to take on her old nemesis, as Tate rattled off four wins since their last meeting. Despite having lost both of her fights with Rousey, Tate told MMA Hour the third time would be the charm.

“For one thing, I’ve been beating everyone who could potentially deserve a shot,” Tate said. “So you can’t tell me that there’s a single girl out there who deserves it more than I do right now.”

If this next bout is anything like Rousey’s last performances, Tate could get her shot soon enough.
