It really was a case of Hard Knocks for Chad Johnson this week after the Miami Dophins released him. The wide receiver, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, was let go after being arrested this week for allegedly head-butting his wife of 41 days, Evelyn Lozada.

Johnson, who joined Miami from the New England Patriots earlier this year, was slowly integrating into the team before this latest incident prematurely ended his Dolphin career. Prior to his arrest, Dolphin coaches were keeping close tabs on him after getting wind of the F-bombs he dropped during a profanity-laced press conference. Johnson's bravado and strong language were captured on HBO's Hard Knocks, a behind-the-scenes look at the summer training camp of an NFL team. This year it's the Miami Dolphins.

The arrest and allegations of spousal abuse caused head coach Joe Philbin to call Johnson into his office and, in a scene so awkward and sad you almost feel bad for him, officially cut Ochocinco from the team. As to where Johnson ends up next, it's anybody's guess.

Johnson released the following statement on his website:

"I would like to apologize to everyone for the recent events that have occurred. I would like to wish Evelyn well and will never say anything bad about her because I truly love her to death. I will continue to be positive and train hard for another opportunity in the NFL. To all the fans and supporters I have disappointed, you have my sincerest apologies. I will stay positive and get through this tough period in my life."

Lozada has since filed for divorce. Johnson took to Twitter yesterday with the following update: "I haven't had to tread water in a long time… special thank you to my fans…family…friends for keeping me afloat… "

Though the show ended on a serious note, there were some moments of levity. During one scene players were treated to a provocative version of Carly Rae Jespen's hit song "Call Me Maybe" featuring the smokin' hot Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders. If nothing else, the music video defitiely raised team morale. Check it out for yourself and you'll know what we mean.
