Sometimes athletes try to write checks their bodies can't cash. And when the bow breaks, or in this case, when the elbow dislocates, the cradle will fall.

For 2008 Olympic champion Jaehyouk Sa, who was competing in the 77kg class in London this week, the cradle was 162kg. The 27-year-old successfully lifted 158kg in the snatch part of competition, but when he went up to 162kg his elbow could not take the strain. In the 2008 games in Beijing, Hungarian lifter Janos Baranyai suffered a similar fate.

Sa was in considerable pain after the accident, and the South Korean was taken to hospital for treatment. China's Lu Xiaojun won the 77kg class gold medal and set a new world record in the process.

Here is the clip of Sa's mishap (not for the faint-hearted).
