Gym rats find inspiration everywhere: Movies, books, comic books, and yes, video games. It might be easier to note the inspiration of a fully mainstream medium like movies, but for guys who came of age in the 90s, video games were, and are, as big a part of pop culture as anything else. So while a child of the 80s might note that the first time he saw Predator as being what made him want to hit the gym, a child of the 90s might say it was the first time he played Street Fighter II and saw Guile’s bulging biceps. It’s with regard to the latter that we’ve compiled this list of the best physiques in gaming history. Because it doesn’t matter if the source of your inspiration is real or not. All that matters is that you get your ass to the gym.
Editor’s Note: This list excludes any real-life guys simulated in video game form. That means there’s no argument to be made for Clay Matthews’ appearance in the Madden series; similarly, Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out doesn’t apply here.
