A few thousand people came out to Gold’s Gym in Venice, California on Saturday, all with the same goal in mind: earning a spot as either a contest or – better yet – a gladiator for Season Two of the hit show on NBC.

A number of IFBB competitors – including Chris Cormier – turned up at Gold’s hoping to join an already long list of competitors from both the IFBB and NPC who earned a spot on the show during Season One. Joining Cormier were IFBB figure professionals Zhanna Rhotar and Mary Jo Cooke, along with fitness professional Julie Shipley-Childs.

Tryouts consisted of four physical tests – the number of pull-ups one could do in 30 seconds, the number of up-downs one could do in 30 seconds, a karaoke run through a rope ladder and 10 shuttle runs of approximately 15 yards each. The line, which formed at the back of Gold’s, stretched around the block, all the way down to Jay Cutler’s Max Muscle Venice.
