Read articleIf there’s one thing that fans of the Alien franchise have come to love and expect, it’s horror-tinged sci-fi scenes, out-of-this-world special effects, and, of course, the nightmare-worthy alien xenomorphs with which the films have become synonymous. If the trailer for the upcoming, Ridley Scott-directed Alien: Covenant—a sequel to 2012’s Prometheus and prequel to the original 1979 film—is any indication, we’re in for a seriously scary ride.
But part of what makes the films, Covenant in particular, so terrifying are the insanely detailed sets that make up the Alien world. And now, thanks to Adam Savage, we get a special look at exactly how that movie magic happens.
The former Mythbusters host, who was actually once employed by George Lucas’ special effects shop, got a behind-the-scenes look of the Alien: Covenant set at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia.
In the video, Savage walks through the massive set of the Engineer’s main Dreadnought ship, highlighting a few key set pieces, as well as the techniques set builders use to make it all look real and the incredibly tight schedule they must work under.
