Born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, singer and songwriter Shakira developed a talent for performing at a young age.

While growing up, she discovered a passion for writing poems, belly dancing, and, of course, singing, which she eventually segued into a succesful music career in Latin America. In 2001, Shakira began to break through into the English-speaking market with her fifth studio album, Laundry Service, whick took off in the United States thanks to its hit single, “Whenever, Wherever”.

And who could forget the mid-2000s classic, not to mention one of the highest selling singles of the 21st century, “Hips Don’t Lie”?
