Flex Lewis

James ‘Flex’ Lewis’ love for bodybuilding started at age 12 when he came across a book on Tom Platz.  It was Platz’s legs that blew away Lewis, front to back, side to side. He remembers always wanting to have huge legs from that day on. One of his biggest idols as a kid was Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Lewis first stepped into the gym at age 15 and that was his start in power lifting. It wasn’t until a local bodybuilder approached him at the gym that he began seriously training under him. A year later, at age 19 Lewis entered his first show, winning the teens Wales, and from there going on to win the British.

As for the nickname, it didn’t come from lifting, it came from Rugby — being flexible to get out of tackles. Having had the moniker since he was 6 years old, it seemingly fit that Flex was meant to be a bodybuilder.
