Tracey Greenwood hasn’t missed a Fitness International since she first stepped onstage in Columbus, Ohio seven years ago. Unfortunately for Greenwood and her fans, her streak competing in seven consecutive Arnold Classics will come to an end this year.
On Monday, Greenwood revealed that she will pull out of the 2010 Fitness International due to a tear in her medial collateral ligament (MCL). According to Greenwood, she first tore her MCL before the 2008 Houston Pro a contest she won and has been training and competing with the injury for more than a year and a half. During that time frame, Greenwood miraculously managed to compete in five contests, notch three wins and win the 2008 FLEX Female Athlete of the Year award. But those wins came with a cost.
“Now I’ve made it considerably worse, where it locks up when I walk and clicks with every step,” Greenwood said. “It’s getting really bad now. I decided it wasn’t worth the risk, so I need to get surgery now.”
Greenwood plans to have surgery as soon as possible and could potentially compete again as early as the Europa Show of Champions in Orlando, Florida on April 16-17.
“I’m shooting to have the surgery by the end of January and it’s a five-week recovery process before I can start training again,” Greenwood said. “So I can be back training by mid-March.”
