2010 Ms. International, Fitness and Figure International prejudging report
March 5, 2010
By Dave Lee
History in the making? It could be if early favorites Iris Kyle, Adela Garcia and Nicole Wilkins-Lee win their respective divisions at the 2010 Arnold Classic, making it the first time that all three reigning Olympia winners hold the Arnold Classic titles at the same time. With each division almost identical to last September’s Olympia, the competition was intense. Here’s how it’s shaping up for tonight’s finals.
Kyle, who dominated ’09 with strong performances at both the Ms. International and Olympia, seems to be on pace for a record-breaking fifth Ms. International title. Of course, she’ll have to defeat a strong field that includes Yaxeni Oriquen-Garcia also a four-time Ms. International winner veteran competitor Lisa Aukland, third place ’09 Olympia finisher Debi Laszewski, and Dayana Cadeau.
Wilkins-Lee will certainly have her work cut out for her as a very competitive lineup looks to spoil her attempt to be the first figure athlete to hold both the Figure Olympia and Figure International titles simultaneously. Wilkins-Lee brought a look similar to the one that made the 25-year old the youngest Figure Olympia champion ever back in September ’09. Coming up hard on her heels are Erin Stern, 10th here last year and sixth at the ’09 Olympia, Heather Mae French, who placed third at the ’09 Olympia and rookie Mindi Smith, fresh off her pro debut win two-weeks earlier at the Phoenix Pro.
It could be a repeat at least that’s what Adela Garcia is hoping for as the two-time Fitness International champ attempts to fight off her nearest competition, Julie Palmer and Tanji Johnson, who finished third and second, respectively, behind Garcia at the ’09 Olympia. Trish Warren and Camala Rodriguez seem to be in a tight battle for fourth.
Check back tonight to see if Kyle, Garcia and Wilkins-Lee can make history at the 2010 Arnold Classic from the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio.
