For the second year in a row, Eugene Mishin was third in the Orlando Show of Champions behind Marcus Haley in second. Despite the deja vu effect, Mishin, a Russian immigrant to Long Island, New York, was pleased to qualify for his second straight Mr. Olympia as he continues to fill out his tall frame.

One area he’s done an excellent job of maximizing is his chest, so we got Mishin to share his chest routine and talk about his emphasis on upper pecs.

EUGENE ON UPPER PECS

“You never see a guy with too much upper pecs and not enough lower pecs. If you focus on the upper area, the lower area will grow enough too. So I do most of my chest exercises on an incline to work more of my upper chest. I like to go heavy on the Smith machine inclines because you can focus just on the up and down movement, and it’s safer than using a barbell”
