For a long time, Germany’s Ronnie Rockel was that guy who didn’t get his due, the one observers always thought could’ve been and probably should’ve been one or two places higher. Not anymore. After making the posedown at the last two Arnold Classics and last year’s Olympia and after this year winning the European Pro and finishing second (to Dexter Jackson) at the FIBO Pro and (to Kai Greene) at the New York Pro, Rockel is a legit contender every time he steps on a dais. And now everyone knows it. His strength is his symmetrical development in the front poses, and his proportionate development includes his abdominals, so we got the Rock to share his ab-etching secrets.

ROCKEL ON ABS

“I train abs at least three times a week in the off-season and almost every day precontest.”

“I’ll usually just do one of the two exercises in my routine each time in the off-season and both of them precontest.”

“Cardio is crucial for great abs, and I like to train abs just before I do 30-40 minutes of cardio and then remember to pull my abs in while I’m doing the cardio.”
