Carbs + Volume Training

The Perfect Combination

Carbohydrates are often controversial supplements to take before a bodybuilding show, but off-season is a whole different story. Hany Rambod encourages his clients to use carbs drinks when training hard. If you're doing high-volume workouts, you have to fuel the machine!

The Study   Researchers examined the impact of ingesting carbs prior to a leg workout. Subjects cosumed 1 gram of carbohydrate per kg of body mass and then 0.17 grams of carbohydrate per kg of body mass every six minutes during the exercise protocol. More or less, they were sipping carbs the entire time they were training legs.

The Results   The study demonstrated the carb intake enabled lifters to train longer and increased muscle-force production.

The Dosage   So if you want to train harder in the off-season when calories are not an issue, it makes sense to use carb suppliments during exhaustive bouts of resistance exercise. Consuming a carb drink may increase resistance training volume and spark some added size. Bodybuilders have several choices of carbohydrate drinks, like Optimum Nutrition's Glyco-Maize, Evogen's Glyco-Ject, Dymatyze's Flud and BSN's Maize.
