Notching the first win of your professional career is always a night to remember. If you’re fortunate enough to be able to accomplish the feat in your hometown, well, that’s icing on the cake. On Saturday night in Pittsburgh, hometown girl Amy Fry was able to do both by winning the Pittsburgh Pro Figure Championships at Soldiers and Sailors Hall.
“My family is here, my clients are here – to win my first pro show in my hometown was just an awesome experience,” Fry said. “I had a nice crowd here [rooting] for me.”
Fry, who turned pro at the 2006 NPC Team Universe, gained momentum at the end of the 2007 season with her eighth-place finish at the Figure Olympia. She followed that up by placing third at the Figure International in March. Combined with her win in Pittsburgh, Fry’s recent run make her one to watch at her next contest, the 2008 Olympia.
A pair of newcomers rounded out the top three. Nicole Wilkins, competing in just her second professional contest, placed second for the second consecutive show. Wilkins, who competes in both professional fitness and figure contests, finished as the runner-up at the New York Pro Fitness Championships two weeks ago.
Marlyand’s Teresa Anthony made her professional debut a successful one by placing third, while Heather Mae French (4th) and Shannon Meteraud (5th)rounded out the top five.
