Read articleThe latest installment of Reebok’s Nano Adventure Series is the Nano X3 Adventure Training Shoe, and in order that these sneakers take a walk on your wild side, this new iteration features a combination of durability, sustainability, and protection.
To find out more, M&F sat down with Tal Short, who is a product director at Reebok, to find out why this shoe is perfect for the gym or the great outdoors.
Designed with the purpose of supporting your adventures inside the four walls of the gym, while also helping you smash goals in the unexpected elements of the great outdoors, the Nano X3 Adventure is lightweight, water resistant, and boasts a Vibram Ecostep Recycle Evo outsole, meaning that while you enjoy your environment, you are doing your bit to protect it. “Working with our friends at Vibram has been a great collaboration,” explained Short. “We used their expertise in rubber outsoles to find the perfect new addition for our series. In our goal of providing athletes with the best training shoe on the market, we landed on the Vibram Ecostep Recycle Evo because of it’s combination of sustainability and performance; offering superior traction and durability while being made with a minimum of 30% recycled rubber.”
Short has been with Reebok since 2016, and says that a commitment to sustainability is a top priority at the company. As a fan of the NANO franchise before he became part of the team, he’s passionate about the direction of the popular training shoe. “Our inspiration for the NANO X3 Adventure was around the idea of building a shoe that someone could take with them on a trip and confidently be able to workout with, on any type of surface,” shares Short. “For me, the most excited part is the outsole, but there are a few other cool outdoor elements on the shoe. The upper has water resistance properties in the vamp (front of the shoe) and features forefoot overlays for added durability. We also wanted to focus on comfort, so we added in some molding details around the tongue and collar.”
There’s also a toe bumper for foot protection and grip, and then there’s Reebok’s “Lift and Run” chassis system in the midsole, designed to give stability when running or jumping. It’s clear to see that these shoes were designed by people who love to experience their own adventures. “Growing up, sports were my life,” says Short. “I played multiple sports in high school and college and loved my time as an athlete. Today, being active is still a major part of my life. As a father, the ‘why’ behind my training has evolved. I’m no longer training to run a faster 40, I’m more focused on staying healthy and being able to play with my son in the backyard in my 40s!”
The product director says that while he has access to try a lot of shoes thanks to his profession, the Nano is his go-to series. And now that this new training shoe is finally ready to be launched into the wild, how does Short feel about releasing it out into the open for others to experience? “I’m fired up to get the Nano X3 Adventure on the feet of those fitness enthusiasts that aren’t afraid of the unexpected elements of the outdoors,” he says. “The goal of the Nano X3 Adventure was to take the core elements of the award-winning Nano X3 and evolve it’s upper and outsole to handle the unexpected elements of the outdoors – making it an athlete’s go-to option for outdoor training and exploration.”
The Reebok Nano X3 Adventure Training Shoe is available from July 14, 2023, on Reebok.com in a variety of styles and colorways, with a retail price of $150.
