The Men’s Physique division is arguably at an all-time high, as Ryan Terry beat a brilliant line up at the 2026 Olympia to become a four-time champion. But for those who don the board shorts, a new pose will become mandatory from 2027, as announced by the IFBB.
“Important: changes to the rules for the IFBB Pro (and Semipro) Men’s Physique poses,” came an alert from the IFBB’s official Instagram account on October 8. Apparently, the big change is already being introduced but will become an obligatory part of competing in this division from 2027.
Prior to this announcement, participants were required to hit the following five poses:
While the IFBB announcement did not give the newly required pose an official name, the reference image provides an example of a rear, back focused, three-quarter turn. Here, the athlete stands with his back facing the judges at a three-quarter angle, twisting his upper body slightly to the side. One arm extends downward with the fingers spread, while the opposite arm bends upward with the hand raised. Legs are staggered, with one foot behind the other, creating a long, diagonal silhouette. The new pose clearly highlights the latissimus dorsi, rear deltoids, triceps, obliques, and hamstrings while maintaining a fluid, dynamic appearance.
The IFBB also went on to explain that this pose will replace the first quarter turn during a routine. And, while this new requirement will mean more practicing for the competitors, some fans have already expressed their approval online.
“I like that,” wrote one Instagrammer. “Shows the lat sweep better than any of the current poses.”
“An interesting change,” added another viewer. “Great to see posing getting more attention”
