Without actually stepping onstage, Tennille Ray will have a major onstage presence at Olympia weekend.

When the world’s best Classic Physique competitors take the Orleans Arena stage Saturday evening, several of athletes will be performing their best poses in Chula Briefs made by the New York City-based designer and her brand Chulawear.

“I’m so excited to see all these amazing athletes on stage wearing my designs,” Ray says. “Words cannot describe seeing my labor of love being presented onstage.”

One of the least-talked about aspects of O competitors is their choice of stage wear. In a short time, Ray has become one of the up-and-coming posing-wear power players with her Chula Briefs.

“I saw a need for shorts with a more classic look like the greats—Arnold [Schwarzenegger] Samir [Bannout], Sergio [Olivia], yet with a modern look and comfortable feel,” Ray says.

Among the Classic Physique competitors who Ray says will be wearing Chulawear designs include:

  • Abner Logan
  • Chris Bumstead
  • Keone Pearson
  • Arash Rahbar
  • Dancovea Anderson
  • Courage Opara
  • Stan De Longeaux
  • Kirill Khudaiev

Ray,  a former women’s figure competitor.who is also a posing coach and has been working with Women’s Physique defending champion Shanique Grant, has been expanding her collection to now include the board-short market for the Physique division. Ray says Physique competitors Anthony Gilkes and Kyron Holden will also be sporting her designs this weekend.

“I’ve designed these to complement any shape and any size, whether you’re 5-foot-tall or 7-feet,” Ray says.
