Katie Cassidy is a geeky guy’s dream girl. The star of CW’s Hit Show Arrow, Cassidy is into it all: comic books, video games, superheroes, um…dressing up like superheroes—all of it! A lifelong fan of cloaked crusaders, she’s not going to pretend like she’s not attracted to a guy in great shape, though. After all, if there’s one thing that Cassidy recommends you do to get the girl of your dreams, it’s not be shy about what you really want.

Cassidy’s character in Arrow could kick your ass, but she’d rather scare the sh—t out of you by shattering every object in sight with her “canary cry.” If you find yourself in an explosive situation with your significant other, take Cassidy’s advice to avoid a screaming match that—spoiler alert—you will lose every time.
“The best thing you can do is not fight back, and say you’re sorry, whether you’re wrong or not,” she says. “In the end, women feel like they’re always right, which is unfortunate, even if we feel like the guy has a case. Apologize, even if you’re not wrong, and don’t let your pride get in the way.”

Fans of comic books aren’t known for successfully emulating the physiques of their heroes. Your personality might be enough to win over the object of your affection, but first you’ve got to get her to notice you. “If we’re expected to take care of ourselves, I think a man should take care of himself, whether you’re into comic books or not. Take an hour to work on yourself.Take care of yourself and it will show. Learn about it. It’s not just about going to the gym and working out. You have to learn how to be healthier. Read up on it and try to be the best you can be,” Cassidy says.

Her role on Arrow has exposed Cassidy to comic book fandom at its best (and worst). Her advice: Leave the costume at home—or really commit to it. “Growing up, I was really into video games and kind of a tomboy, so I love that kind of stuff and I totally get it,” she says. “I’m not necessarily into the spandex costumes where their junk is in your face [Laughs], but I think it’s fun…I get it—they’re passionate, they care, it’s something they love, and so I’m like, ‘Well, they’re big fans and they’re doing what they want to do, so good for them for being able to be that…ballsy—literally.’”

If there’s something you’re passionate about, like graphic novels, for example, don’t keep it to yourself—it could be an opportunity to bond with your partner, or that girl you have a crush on. Who knows, maybe they’ll turn out to be a bigger fan than you expected. “I think that getting her into video games first is a step in the right direction,” Cassidy says. “Just be open and share the fact that you’re into it and introduce the world to her in a way that isn’t necessarily overwhelming. Anything where there are women involved, that is obviously going to help get her more interested.”
