Get out your high school grammar books: Guys who use the word “whom” in their online dating profile get 31% more replies from girls, a wired.com survey reports.

Correct usage is paramount, (to decide between “who” and “whom,” ask whether the answer would be “he” or “him”: “Who hired the hooker?” “He did.” “To whom did they send the police?” “To him.”)—as is moderation. Says Dan Slater, author of A Million First Dates: Solving the Puzzle of Online Dating, “Wellspokenness is about being sensitive and thoughtful, not stiff or formal.”

Bottom line, though, intelligence is sexy. “Women like smart, wellspoken guys because they’re more interesting, more likely to have good jobs, and obviously better in bed,” says Slater. We’ll share that at our next Mensa meeting.
