Bodybuilding makes a return to Pittsburgh, Saturday May 2 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, Oakland Section of Pittsburgh, with the 2009 NPC Pittsburgh Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure and Bikini Championships and the IFBB Pittsburgh Pro Men’s 202-pound and Under, the first 202-pound and under event of the 2009 IFBB Pro League season, with the top three finalists qualifying for the 2009 Olympia 202 Showdown.
With a fresh training approach and his ever-supportive wife, Christina behind him, Washington’s Mark Dugdale has to be considered the odds-on favorite going into this weekend with top contending 202-pounders Jason Arntz and George Farah pushing him hard.
Of note is the fact that the elusive Richard Jones is set to make his return to the stage after nearly five years of inactivity. Hailed as one of bodybuilding’s brightest lights during his pro rookie year of 2004, Jones disappeared from the scene following a third place finish at the Night of Champions and 18th at the Olympia. No telling what Jones will look like this weekend, but with his genetics it’s hard to imagine him not being in contention for a high placing.
Of course, IFBB Pro League Chairman and NPC President Jim Manion’s annual event holds much more in store as fitness, figure and men’s and women’s amateur bodybuilding will all be contested, as well as Pittsburgh’s first-ever NPC bikini division show.
And as if all of this wasn’t enough, the guest poser list is the best, bar none: 2008 Mr. Olympia Dexter Jackson, 2006-2007 Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler, 1998-2005 Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman, plus Phil Heath, Victor Martinez, Kai Greene, Branch Warren, Toney Freeman and Dennis Wolf! No doubt a taste of the Olympia top ten to come.
