Anthony Michael Hall has been a Hollywood mainstay for more than 40 years and shot to fame in iconic movies like The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, and National Lampoon’s Vacation, but despite his hefty acting resume, this actor is serious about staying in shape. The star, who has more recently starred in Wednesday, and can currently be seen on Nation’s Dumbest, shares his strategy with M&F.

When Anthony Michael Hall gets to work on a new movie or television project, he also makes sure to master his fitness ahead of long shoots. The actor, who recently appeared as “Zachary Beck” in the third season of Reacher has certainly relied on his physical fitness during many blockbuster projects and recalls that one of his toughest tests came on the set of Dead in Tombstone  back in 2013. “I starred in that movie along with Danny Trejo and Mickey Rourke and I had a blast,” says Hall.” I was riding horses, shot lots of crazy fight scenes, and even did some high falls onto big pads. A great experience that we shot it in Bucharest.”

Joining the cast of Nation’s Dumbest, airing on Fox and Disney+, it’s Hall’s mental fitness that is currently being tested. Here, the primary goal is to graduate and leave the show by early by being smart, rather than remaining as the last one standing, and thus earning the title of Nation’s Dumbest.

“I thought, I’m gonna go for it and have some fun with this,” says the star. “And that’s exactly what I did.”

Of course, Hall, who is fighting fit at 58, knows that both body and his mind are the tools of his trade. “I love eating fast-food sometimes, I’m not going to lie,” explains the balanced actor. “We usually indulge on family road trips. I’m also a big fan of good New York-style pizza.” But for the majority of his meals, Hall stays away from too much sugar. “I cut out breads and sugars, and I limit my carb intake to pasta,”  he explains, noting that especially during taxing projects, the actor increases his water and protein intake. “I eat fish and chicken as my protein, plus I always incorporate lots of fresh vegetables and fruit… no breads or sugars in the house when I’m working.”

What Is Anthony Michael Hall’s Mobility Routine?

“My routine is executed at my home gym, out on my deck, or on the beach,” he shares. “I focus on weight training, with lighter weights but higher reps. I love biking and shadow boxing for cardio.”

This movie star also works on his mobility. “I follow a fascia and lymphatic flow routine,” says the star. For the uninitiated, the fascia and lymphatic systems are linked processes, where the fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs, while lymph fluid vessels run through the facia layers. Practices such as massage, stretching, and yoga stimulate trapped fluid and can reduce inflammation while flushing out toxins.

Hall completes these weights, cardio, and mobility sessions five times per week. “In the morning or early afternoon, in the sun,” he explains, and notes that while he is not a huge consumer of health supplements, he does regularly take vitamin C, “for general good health, and for strengthening your immune system.”

What Music Does Anthony Michael Hall Listen to While Working Out?

In terms of his playlist, the keen musician and “Hall of Mirrors” singer loves to workout to some of  his favorite tracks. “I’m always listening to music while I’m working out,” shares Hall. “Some artists on my current playlist include James Blake, his new album (“Trying Times”) is brilliant. I’m a big Mac Miller fan, so I’ve been listening to his albums like “Swimming.” Also, Chris Stapleton, Kings of Leon, Yelawolf, Jacob Collier. Lots of jazz, too!”

A balanced dedication to his daily health and fitness routine should keep Michael Anthony Hall in shape for the foreseeable future, and that’s great news because the busy actor has two more huge projects on the way. He’ll star in the upcoming comedy-horror, Halloween Store, and is joining the cast of S.W.A.T: Exiles.
