With the big day just under two weeks away, we’re caught up in the excitement already. How it’s gonna go is anybody’s guess. But that isn’t going to stop us from trying. So, for the first time ever, we are introducing our Olympia Madness Tournament on Flexonline.com.
WHAT IT IS: A single elimination tournament, where we seed the top 16 competitors. Winners advance based on an online voting system.
MATCHUPS: Four rounds: A play-in round, the 1st round, the quaterfinals, semifinals and finals.
VOTING: By round. Pick your winner, cast your vote.
HOW WE SEEDED: It wasn’t easy. First off, we seeded our top 16 competitors based on recent performance and Olympia performances. Our seven (7) unseeded competitors were thrown into a Battle Royal, so to speak. The seven unseeded competitors were:
Michael Kefalianos
Joel Stubbs
Bill Wilmore
Ahmad Haidar
Darrem Charles
Martin Kjellstrom
Hidetada Yamagishi
And while we’d like to give everyone an equal opportunity through online voting, there just isn’t enough time. So, early advancers in the Battle Royal were:
Stubbs
Wilmore
Haidar
Yamagishi
Those four advanced to play the four bottom seeds from the top 16 in our Play in Round, which begins today.
OLYMPIA MADNESS
Seeds
1 Dexter Jackson
defending champ
2 Phil Heath
3rd last year, on the rise
3 Jay Cutler
last year’s runner up, two-time champ
4 Kai Greene
Arnold Classic winner, but an Olympia rookie
5 Dennis Wolf
under the radar but two straight top-five finishes
6 Victor Martinez
could be higher but hasn’t put it all together recently
7 Branch Warren
thick and conditioned, 3rd at the Arnold
8 Toney Freeman
great shape, but conditioning always a question mark
9 Melvin Anthony
falls a few spots after disappointing showing in Atlantic City
10 Silvio Samuel
will have trouble matching size with the top guys here
11 Dennis James
two wins this summer, on the rise
12 Moe Elmoussawi
if he’s conditioned, could climb in the rankings
13 Ronny Rockel
great front the front when he’s on, but only so-so from the back
14 Gustavo Badell
coming off a win, but not the same bodybuilder as he was in 2008
15 Markus Ruhl
big but funky
16 Troy Alves
aesthetically pleasing, but lacks leg size and conditioning to match up with the top 10
So there you have it. We’re sure there are a lot of you who disagree with our seeds but hey, it’s competition. In the end, there can only be one winner. If you want to play nice, play intramurals.
