It’s been a bit of a crazy fall for horrendous ear injuries in the MMA world. First we had Leslie Smith’s exploding cauliflower ear in her fight with fellow bantamweight Jessica Eye at the recent UFC 180 card in Mexico, and now mmaUNDERGROUND has recently published footage of another fight with a similarly gruesome ending.
Rance Jones was taking on Dion Rizzuto in a welterweight contest at Atlas Fighting Championship 4 in Biloxi, Mississippi, in September. Rizzuto was making his debut as a pro, and let’s just say he won’t forget his first foray in the paid ranks. It has been reported that Rizzuto has an untreated cauliflower ear going into the fight, and when Jones ramped up the pressure and connected with a straight left punch, the ear just went kaboom! The referee waived off the fight with 36 seconds gone in the first stanza, and Jones moved to 4-1, 3 KOs with the win. Be warned if you have a weak constitution.
