Tony Romo would like you to know that he is not, in fact, fat.

He would like you to know that he is not fat despite how he looks in this photo:

That shot, from Dallas Morning News reporter Jon Machota, created a brief dustup over the weekend as football fans seized on the “Fat Romo” shot, inspiring a meme (“FOMO” briefly got a new definition) and comparisons to the infamous “Fat Eddie Lacy” photo that might have inspired the hefty Packers running back to slim down (with some help from Tony Horton).

Unsurprisingly, Romo was not thrilled about the photo—and he let Machota know it.

Because here’s the thing: Despite how he appears in Machota’s shot, Tony Romo really isn’t that fat.

“If I was that big, I’d think we’d have some talks,” Romo said at a press conference Monday. “I think I’m going to be alright.”

And for what it’s worth, Machota took the criticism in stride, admitting it was a misleading photo. “It was a bad angle, making Romo appear about 20 or 30 pounds overweight in the shot,” Machota wrote in a follow-up story. “Romo is not overweight.”

Cowboys staff are, unsurprisingly, backing that up. “I think he’s in some of the best shape he’s been in,” team executive vice president Stephen Jones told Machota.

So relax, Cowboys fans. As long as Romo’s newly-repaired clavicle stays in one piece this season, he should be just fine.
