Rory McIlroy is showing us once again that throwing some weights around goes hand-in-hand with success in golf, according to Nike’s latest ad. As shown in the video above, box jumps, renegade rows, med ball slams, squats, and plyometric pushups are just some of the moves that have become a big component of the Irishman’s game.

In a sport where many prominent voices frown upon lifting, McIlroy has stayed dedicated to the gym—so much so that he’s even squatted to silence a critic over TwitterMcIlroy is no stranger to the weight room, and it’s not the first time that we’ve seen him get serious in the gym. Our Deputy Editor analyzed his workout  last year and had some good things to say.

“As a whole, the program looks sound. Rory talks a lot about how much he enjoys his training and has seen an improvement,” former M&F deputy editor Matt Tuthill said. “That’s probably the most important part—that the athlete buys into the program.”
