NPC and IFBB Pro League athletes will clash for cash at Olympia Pound4Pound Challenge

August 11, 2010

FLEXONLINE.COM

Since we announced the Olympia Pound4Pound Challenge our inbox (pound4pound@mrolympia.com) has been blowing up nonstop. We weren’t surprised by the volume of interest — who would be with the chance to win up to $10 grand!?— but we were surprised by how many NPC competitors sent in e-mails explaining that they — not the IFBB Pro League athletes — had the balls of brass to emerge as the first undisputed pound-for-pound strongest bodybuilder in Olympia Weekend history.

We had a meeting of the minds, thought it over and came to a decision: If amateur athletes want in on the action, let’s get it on! Now, all NPC athletes who have competed on the national level in 2010 can apply to join the IFBB Pro League athletes in the Olympia Pound4Pound challenge. Another thing you told us: You want to squat with free weights. Noted. That’s been changed, too. Here’s a revised list of lifts that will take center stage at the Olympia Pound4Pound Challenge:

• Bench press — 1 ½ BW
• Squat — 2x BW
• Smith Machine seated press — 1X BW
• Deadlift — 2x BW

RULES AND REGS

Competitors will weigh in on site. Weights will be rounded to the nearest zero.
FOR EXAMPLE
• 173 pounds = 170 pounds
• 227 pounds = 230 pounds

Competitors will have ONE opportunity to perform each lift.

— Only FULL reps will be counted (which will be determined by an on-site judge)
— Belt, wraps and straps are all permitted

The top five competitors in each lift will receive the following points. A tie in reps will result in both competitors being awarded a point. The highest point total at the end of all four lifts will determine the overall winner. In the case of a tie, the total number of reps will determine a winner.

1. 5 points
2. 4 points
3. 3 points
4. 2 points
5. 1 point

WHO’S ELGIBLE?

All IFBB Pro League athletes and NPC athletes who have competed on the national level in 2010 out to prove they’re the pound-for-pound strongest bodybuilder can apply.

PRIZE MONEY BREAKDOWN

$4,000 for highest overall total
