With only a dozen champs in 44 contests, the Mr. Olympia is all about dynasties. In contrast, the Arnold Classic has had 13 winners in a mere 21 shows, and only four Arnold victors have repeated: Kevin Levrone (’94, ’96), Jay Cutler (’02, ’03, ’04), Dexter Jackson (’05, ’06, ’08), Flex Wheeler (’93, ’97, ’98, ’00).

Contemplating retirement, Cutler has mentioned making the 2011 Arnold his final show in the hopes of going out with a record-tying fourth A.C. title. If he does, Jackson may have already beat him there, as The Blade goes for win number four this Saturday.

“I want to get another Arnold,” Jackson said. “It’d be a big honor to be up there with Flex as the only guys to win four.”

Speaking of four, Jackson turned the big 4-0 last November, but middle age has failed to diminish his trademark detailing.

“I still feel like I’m at my peak, and you’ll see my best in Columbus,” he assured.

The venerable Veteran’s Memorial stage seems to bring out the best of The Blade, and if anyone should feel comfortable there, it’s him. Since last century, he’s made it his second home. While Jackson tries to tie one record on Saturday, it’s guaranteed he’ll break another, his own for most Arnold appearances. He’s so far out ahead that the mark could stand the test of time. Last year was the only one of his pro career he declined to compete in Columbus’ prestigious invitational. 2010 will be number 11 — a dynasty, of sorts.
