It’s by no means an excuse for skipping the gym, but if you do happen to miss your workout, consider relaxing with a hot bath, says Steve Faulkner, an exercise physiologist at Loughborough University in the U.K. His recent research found that subjects who took an hour-long hot bath burned about 140 calories (about the same amount as a 30-minute brisk walk). They also had 10% lower peak glucose levels (a measure of blood sugar) compared with when they did an hour-long cycling workout.
