At 21, he won the Mr. New Jersey title, and soon after moved to California where he initially trained at a gym many called “The Dungeon”, which he described as “a large, awful space dug out of the ground.” Draper later worked out at the original Gold’s Gym, where he had such training partners as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Franco Columbu and Frank Zane.
