In January, Naomi Kutin set a new world record for women in the 97 lb class when she squatted 214.9 pounds in Corpus Christi, TX.

The New Jersey native has been lifting since she was 8, and shortly after her record-breaking feat, she explained what motivated her to achieve that goal.

"When I was younger, my friends would be doing a lot of things that I couldn't do, and I wanted to do something extraordinary," said Kutin, according to KII TV. "I wanted to break a record of some sort and I just really wanted to get this record."

In an extensive interview with the Jewish Daily, Naomi admits that “it’s kind of weird being stronger than an adult.”

Lifting runs in the Kutin family, as Naomi's father Ed explained in the same interview that he has been lifting competitively for 30 years.

Naomi's mother, Neshama told the Daily that the family did not take the decision to allow Naomi to start lifting lightly, consulting doctors and other before deciding to all her participate in the sport. The emphasis was placed on teaching Naomi the proper form to minimize the chances of injury.

As for Naomi herself, she says she wants to keep on breaking records, then keep on breaking her own records and have fun while doing so.
