Read articleOne thing’s for sure: The filmmakers behind Logan really took the movie’s R rating to heart.
Hugh Jackman holds nothing back in his last, iconic turn as Wolverine, showing off his musclebound physique as he tries to protect Laura Kinney (Dafne Keen), a young mutant with powers—and claws—just like Logan’s.
And whereas previous X-Men movies have usually been fairly judicious about showing the many one-handed vivisections our hero dishes out, Logan is pretty damn straightforward: Wolverine and Kinney put their claws into numerous bad guys in the trailer as villain Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook) tries to track down the mutants:
According to the official film synopsis revealed by Jackman, Logan follows Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Logan as they hide out near the Mexican border and protect Kinney from Pierce and his band of mutant-hunting “Reavers.”
And if that new trailer wasn’t violent enough for you, a red-band version has also been released, and damn is it bloody:
Logan, directed by James Mangold and starring Jackman, Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, and Eriq La Salle, will be released on March 3, 2017.
