Barbell Stepover

The barbell stepover is a dynamic multi-joint exercise that targets the quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings while increasing functionality and mobility throughout the hips.


  1. 391_A
    Standing perpendicular to a bench, place a barbell across your upper back, pulling the bar down while squeezing your shoulder blades together for stability.
  2. Barbell Stepover
    Brace your core and drive one knee up toward your navel to step over the bench. Firmly plant your foot on the floor.
  3. 391_C
    Drive your other knee up toward your navel to step over the bench so that both feet come to rest directly under your hips.

Trainer’s Tips

  • Keep your chin parallel to ground throughout the exercise.
  • Keep your weight distributed evenly over your planted foot.
  • Your core should remain contracted throughout the exercise.
