Russia's Aleksey Lovchev was not playing at the International Weightlifting Federation’s World Weightlifting Championships in Houston over the weekend.

The 26-year-old had a meet to remember when he set a new world record – an incredible 264 kg (582.02 pounds) clean and jerk, followed by a 211 kg (465.175 pounds) snatch! The total of 475kg (1047.2 pounds) set a new total weight world record.

“I was thinking, ‘This is impossible,’ as I had never tried that weight before,” he said of his record-setting clean and jerk, according to the IWF website. “I’m overwhelmed," said Lovchev, "this shows that Russia is the strongest nation."
