It would appear that all Henry Cavill’s hard work in the gym has paid of for Man of Steel, which took in $125 million in ticket sales over the weekend and broke the June box office record in the process. The movie took in $113 million over the weekend, plus $12 million from the screenings that took place on Thursday.

With a cast including Cavill, Russell Crowe, Michael Shannon, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane, the film was likely to do well, but despite a so-so reception from critics, the public has embraced the franchise reboot and let their ticket-buying do the talking.

Speculation is rife as to when we can expect the next Man of Steel movie. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that a source close Warner told the newspaper that a second movie is in the works and could hit the big screens in 2014.
