“I have bronchitis and if I don’t take care of it the next step is pneumonia.”
Those are the words of veteran IFBB pro Dennis James, who has decided not to compete in the Australia Pro Championships as originally planned, using discretion as the better part of valor.
“Of course I want to compete,” James avers, “but I’ve had pneumonia twice already, so I didn’t want to take any chances. If this were to go into my lungs it could develop into pneumonia. So I’m on antibiotics now.”
James says he actually competed in the ’09 Arnold Classic with bronchitis but that it didn’t affect his preparation and that he was happy with the level of conditioning he brought to Columbus. “I feel like it was the best shape I’ve been in for a long time – maybe not my best ever, but not far from it,” he states.
“The Menace” hasn’t yet decided when he’ll step back onstage but confirms, “I’m not done yet.”
