We’re with The Oak! Here are (just) five reasons why we think Stallone deserves a bit more recognition. UPDATED: Sly returned the love with this Instagram post: To my good friend Arnold Schwarzenegger. A video posted by Sly Stallone (@officialslystallone) on Feb 29, 2016 at 4:50pm PST
He Gave Us Rocky
Sylvester Stallone brought us Rocky, and for most of us, this boxing movie franchise means a hell of a lot. Even today, after all the sequels and imitators, we’re still talking about the original.
He Doesn’t Need the Spotlight
Sly’s the kind of guy who knows when to step back. He gave a knockout (pun intended) supporting performance in Creed to earn his first ever Golden Globe earlier this year.
He Sacrifices for the Role
While most men of his vintage would be sitting on the the porch kicking back, Stallone pushes his body to the max. Sometimes he breaks himself up a bit, as we see here in this memorable shot of himself and our executive editor when both sustained shoulder injuries in 2012 while filming The Expendables.
He Brings Energy to the Screen
While filming Rocky IV Sylvester Stallone asked Dolph Lundgren not to hold back and really punch him in one scene. Lundgren duly obliged and nearly killed him!
His Training is No Act
When Drago told Rocky “I must break you,” Rocky probably thought, no way pal, this arm routine broke me, and I am now ready to kick your ass (dramatization, may not have actually occurred!).
