David Katoatau is an Olympic weightlifter whose family lost their home in a cyclone. He began dancing after his lifts at competitions to raise awareness for the problems that climate change causes for Kiribati, his home nation. 

His dances are definitely accomplishing that goal. His dance after his 14th place finish in Rio has become a social media sensation, and the crowd at the games applauded Katoatau with amazing energy.

“Most people don’t know where Kiribati is,” Katoatau told Reuters. “I want people to know more about us so I use weightlifting, and my dancing, to show the world.”

Katoatau’s Olympic spirit is something that everyone should have. It’s raising awareness for the issues that affect people around the globe in a creative and fun way.
