In a surprise twist that has left the UFC community of followers in confusion, it has been announced that Miesha Tate will defend her title against Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 this July.

Although there had been hopes that she would either wait for Ronda Rousey’s return to the Octagon, or accept a rematch with Holly Holm, neither of those scenarios will come to fruition, at least for now.

“Ronda is out until November or December,” Tate said on Fox’s “UFC Tonight.” “Holly, it was her first defense, she wasn’t successful. It’s not like she was a long-reigning champion, and I finished that fight. So I think the most dangerous woman is Amanda Nunes.”
