Try Box Breathing

Whether you’re stuck in a holiday traffic jam or fighting your way through midnight madness at the mall, take a moment to practice deep breathing. It can help slow your heart rate, ease tension, and reduce anxiety, says Junaid Kalmadi, co-founder of brain.fm, a website that features music to improve focus, relaxation, and sleep.

How To Box Breathe

  1. Sit with a straight back, and begin to focus on your breath.

  2. Inhale with your nose for a count of four or five, and hold for the same count.

  3. Exhale for the same four to five seconds, count, and hold again for the same count.

  4. Repeat five or more times.
